Counselling for children and young people
Parents and caregivers – choosing the right counsellor for your child can feel very overwhelming. I wonder if you’re seeing big behaviours at home, challenges going into the school environment, social difficulties or separation anxiety. Are you at a loss as to how to support your child or the family unit as a whole?
Counselling could be a good way to think about what is going on, how to make changes with your child in order for the different environments to feel more connected.
The way I work with younger clients can differ to the work I offer with adults. Initially, I would do an assessment to hear how things are at home and what you feel your child would benefit from with regular counselling sessions, along with the voice of your child as to their wishes and needs too. Regular parental reviews offer a more joined up way of working with the family.
With your child or young person, we might think about more creative ways to explore individual challenges, such as sand work, paints, drawing or games – by way of examples.
